Walk On with WalkUSC!

WalkUSC is an on-campus and remote program led by volunteer faculty and staff aimed at creating a culture of movement and social connection through group activity. If you’re looking to improve your health, get outside, and connect with colleagues across campus and remotely, consider joining a weekly event to walk, roll, or move in any way you prefer with WalkUSC!

Interested in taking the lead? Become a Walk Leader for WalkUSC!

As a Walk Leader, you will lead faculty and staff on approved walking routes throughout UPC or HSC. Leaders receive a brief orientation to gain leadership and guidance, WalkUSC-branded merchandise, and recognition for their time. Fill out the Walk Leader interest form to get involved.

Each activity will last for 15 to 30 minutes and will begin the week of June 5, 2023. The schedule is below.

Registration

To sign up, please fill out the registration form. Please note, you must also fill out a waiver/consent form – which is available at the end of the registration form – before participating.

Frequently asked questions

Faculty and staff of all fitness levels and abilities can partake. Feel free to join walks before/after work or as your schedule allows. As a friendly reminder, be sure to speak with your manager/supervisor, as appropriate, if you are joining during the workday.

Walks may take from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your Walk Leader’s availability and group preference.

Please bring:

  1. Comfortable walking shoes, your water bottle, sun protection, and layers for cold (if necessary).
  2. Your WalkUSC stamp card. After attending your first walk you will receive this card, and you are encouraged to bring it with you every time you attend a walk, for opportunities to win prizes (while supplies last). Please write your emergency contact on the stamp card too.

Your Walk Leader will inform the walking group of any last-minute changes due to weather.

Yes, remote walks are scheduled.

Become a Walk Leader for WalkUSC!

WalkUSC is an on-campus walking program led by trained volunteer faculty and staff aimed at creating a culture of movement and social connection through group activity. If you’re looking to improve your health, get outside, and connect with colleagues across campus, consider volunteering to become a volunteer Walk Leader!

As a Walk Leader, you will lead faculty and staff on approved walking routes throughout UPC or HSC. Leaders receive a brief orientation to gain leadership and guidance, WalkUSC-branded merchandise, and recognition for their time.

Here’s a Walk Leader’s role and responsibilities:

  • Meet participants at the starting point (Tommy Trojan at UPC and Pappas Quad at HSC) a few minutes before the start of the walk
  • Greet participants and ask them to sign up
  • Distribute the WalkUSC stamp card to new participants and mark off the walk for returning participants
  • Round up the group and facilitate welcome and introductions
  • Lead a 15 or 30-minute walk
  • Thank everyone for attending the walk
  • Encourage the group to invite new members and share available USC resources with your walking group
  • If applicable, hold a raffle for participants
